The Portrait conference is made up of three events.

The first being an online portrait competition, followed by a two-day conference and finishing with the judging of the print competition which involves the top 30 entrants in the competition.

It is an annual, national photography competition for amateur, enthusiast & professional photographers alike.

If you’re passionate about photography, we can help you gain greater exposure and even achieve international recognition.

With one of Australia's largest prize pools of $60,000 including $15,000 in cash on offer, The Portrait conference gives enthusiast and professional photographers the opportunity to comb through some past portraits or to go out and shoot some new ones.

About The Portrait Conference

The Portrait Conference is hosted by Robert Gatto and Peter Eastway and will include two full days of instruction on all things portraiture by eight of Australia’s most talented portrait artists and educators, including Jerry GhionisJoshua HolkoLauren McGillJason EdwardsMelissa Ghionis, George FettingRocco Ancora and the dynamic sister duo of Ashley Karakatsanis and Nikki Fox.

The conference begins with a keynote presentation by Joshua Holko, a world collected photographer specialising in the Polar and sub-Polar regions of the globe, his work celebrates the extreme latitudes of the Polar environment and will show that portraits are not only the domain of people and that animals can make great subjects. Joshua will be followed by the seven other industry leaders presenting over two days. Open Forums will be held both days over the weekend with a mix of conference speakers available to answer your questions.

Celebrate with us on the Tuesday night after the presentations have finished as we transform the event space into four shooting areas and a printing studio (this additional event will cost $45 to attend and will include limited drinks and finger food). Our aim is to build four unique shooting environments each manned by one of our speakers, these sets will be fully equipped by our sponsors with models, lighting and props. Bring a QXD Card or an SD card ( Nikon will supply all the Camera and Lenses you will need ) and capture images with the assistance of our speakers and take home if time permits prints of your images from the night.

To cap off  this fabulous two day conference, we will be announcing the winners of the print component of The Portrait Conference for 2019 on the Wednesday evening and you're welcome to stay, have a drink and view the 30 printed entries before the winners are announced.
